Networking Events' Seminar Topics

Seminar: Through my Eyes - An Inclusive Director
Presenter - Catherine Riley

24per cent people in the UK have a disability so creating an inclusive workplace is critical. Despite recent improvements in legislation there is still a huge disparity for people who are disabled. This includes lower employment rates. Directors have legal, statutory and moral responsibilities for ensuring workplaces are inclusive for all. However, it can be difficult for Directors to know where to start. Currently 80per cent of disabled people have a hidden disability which covers a wide range of physical and mental conditions that are not visible or immediately obvious.

Join us for insights from Cath who will help you gain awareness from her lived experiences, learn practical strategies for inclusion which you can use in your workplace to help you create a culture where all contributions are valued.

Navigating the professional landscape as a severely sight-impaired individual with a hidden disability has profoundly shaped my understanding of the challenges and prejudices that people like me often face. This personal journey inspired me to develop a specialised training and consultation service dedicated to promoting disability inclusion within organisations. Leveraging my unique perspective, I offer insightful guidance and practical strategies to help teams recognise and value the contributions of all employees, regardless of visible or hidden disabilities. My services include tailored workshops, comprehensive consultations, and engaging guest speaking engagements, all designed to dismantle misconceptions surrounding hidden disabilities.

My goal is to empower organisations to cultivate truly inclusive cultures where every team member can thrive. By focusing on awareness, empathy, and proactive inclusion practices, I strive to transform workplaces into environments where diversity is not just acknowledged but celebrated. Following so many negative personal experiences, I am now passionate about collaborating with organisations to create more inclusive and understanding workplaces, enhancing both employee satisfaction and organisational success.

Seminar: What's your relationship like with time? Does time have control?
Presenter - Chris Brindley
I wish I had a pound for every time people say "I wish I had more time", but what does that statement really mean? There is always more time available - today, tomorrow, next week, next month and so on - or is there?

Chris will explore the myths and mysteries of "time", asking the fundamental question - Is there such a thing as "Time Management"?

? Do we have the same relationship with time, as we do with money?
? Where does our time go?
? What steps individuals can take to get back control of time?
? The concept of a "model week" in the workplace

After Executive roles in the UK with NatWest, British Gas and Metro Bank, Chris now has a portfolio of Non-Executive Director (NED) and Chair roles in Business and Sport. He also is a global keynote speaker and Executive Coach. He is Chair at Northern Ireland Football League and Equilibrium Wealth Management. He is also a Non-Executive Director at Fylde, Fresh and Fabulous and Trustee of the Charitable Foundation, Switch the Play. He has previously held Chair roles at Rugby League World Cup 2021, GreaterSport (County Sports Partnership), Sporting House, MCRactive, Zellar and Her Spirit. From an Executive coaching perspective, Chris is a Leadership and Business Coach at Raise the Bar and Goodson Thomas. Chris has coached Executives from companies such as Heineken, Muller, Octopus Energy and the Football Association. Chris is also a Business Mentor for the Premier League, Elite Academy Managers Programme.

Chris is not a theorist, but a skilled and experienced practitioner. He is a leading authority on Performance Management, Strategy, Customer Experience and Employee Engagement; particularly within organisations where change is a feature. His awards include Britain's Best Boss, and Most Outstanding Workplace at the National Business Awards. In 2017 he was awarded United Kingdom, Non-Executive Director of the Year by the Institute of Directors and in 2018 was awarded an MBE for services to charity and sport.

What our
members and
visitors say...

Great Bear Distribution have been members of The Business Network Forum for almost 12 months and in that time I have met many interesting Owner Directors and Senior Managers of business. The Chester Business Forum meets monthly for a couple of hours at various prestigous Chester Hotels. Not only is there an opportunity to network with key decision makers in the region, it is also possible to present your organisation to a wider audience, on a one to one and if the opportunity allows as a formal seminar. My Company will in time I am sure be doing business with one or two of the key people we have met - this is a gradual process of confidence building ,and sharing of ideas and experiences. Equally many of the smaller companies and individuals can provide a higher degree of personalised service, something which has been lost and perhaps missed in a quest for business growth. I highly recommend any business to put a toe in the water and meet two highly motivated organisers and many like minded business networkers at a future meeting.... Go on try it - nothing ventured nothing gained.!

The Business Network lunches attract high quality attendees and the organisers put a great deal of effort into understanding the kind of contacts that each member is looking to make. The result is that more often than not you find yourself sitting with other members with whom there is genuine scope for you to do business with, making the experience both enjoyable and very worthwhile.
